Located in the heart of Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood, Perch Bar & Grill stands out as a quintessential local bar where good times and genuine community spirit meet. Nestled at 7505 N Lombard St, this relaxed yet lively spot has carved out its own niche as a comfortable haven for those seeking authentic neighborhood vibes without any pretense.
Step inside, and you immediately feel the warm embrace of a place where the bartenders aren’t just pouring drinks—they’re crafting experiences. As Nicholas Jones aptly puts it, the bartender breathes life into the room with a perfect blend of kindness and wit, turning every visit into a memorable evening. It's exactly the sort of atmosphere that invites locals and visitors alike to unwind, share stories, and enjoy themselves without breaking the bank.
The drink menu here is thoughtfully balanced with both local favorites and classic staples. Whether you’re craving a crisp Rainier Beer or something a bit more celebratory like Champagne, Perch offers an approachable and reasonably priced selection that complements its culinary offerings. Speaking of food, the bar's menu is a robust collection of crowd-pleasers designed to satisfy those late-night cravings or casual hangouts.
Food lovers will appreciate the hearty and comforting options that greet you — from perfectly golden Chicken Tenders paired with the kick of Franks Hot Sauce, to expertly crafted sandwiches like the Tuna Melt and the classic Grilled Cheese with chips. If it’s a burger night you're after, the Double Cheeseburger and various specialty burgers (including the S Perch Burger and Er's Bacon Burger) deliver layers of juicy satisfaction with every bite.
For those who love to snack and share, the "Munchies" selection is a treasure trove of deep-fried delights and finger foods including Spring Rolls, Mini Corn Dogs, Deep Fried Onion Rings, and Mozzarella Cheese Sticks that bring that satisfying crunch and rich, gooey interiors. Not to forget the spicy 6 Piece Hot Wings and Jalapeno Poppers, which add a fiery twist to your snacking experience.
Karaoke nights here are a community favorite, creating an energized but warm environment that's not just about singing but camaraderie and fun. Candy Brooks highlights how weekends light up with karaoke performances that truly showcase talent, proving you don’t need to be "shit faced drunk" to belt out a great tune. Olivia Montesano further emphasizes the bar’s authentic neighborhood vibe, praising the karaoke host who adds his own flair with smoked cheese and hot sauce sold during events—small but delightful touches that enhance the overall experience.
While Perch Brooklyn holds a fiercely local and unpolished charm, with longtime patrons who bring a rough-and-tumble history to the place (as Julius Warswan’s colorful review hints), it’s this unfiltered authenticity that gives Perch its character. It’s not a sanitized experience but a genuine one—a blend of friendly faces, strong drinks, and an occasionally unpredictable energy that feels rivetingly real.
For those looking for a casual spot to end a workday, Scott Peterson’s endorsement of Perch as a "fun little bar to stop in for a cold beverage" rings true. It’s approachable, laid-back, and perfectly suited for anyone craving a no-frills, good-hearted bar experience where the focus is on good company and good drinks.
In sum, Perch Bar & Grill is more than just a local watering hole; it’s a slice of Portland’s authentic neighborhood spirit. It invites you to kick back, savor tasty bar eats that are both nostalgic and satisfying, and immerse yourself in a welcoming atmosphere where laughs are loud, stories flow freely, and everyone—from the regulars to first-timers—can find their perch.
Great place! Absolutely relaxed atmosphere, the bartender is able to breathe some life into an ole jive turkey like myself, and she is just as kind as the day is long and witty enough to stand her own ground... Fun evening every time I've walked in the doors, I recommend the Perch to anyone who isn't a stick in the mud, and wants to have a good time, and not waste a bunch of cash on B.S.
Always have a good time & I enjoy the karaoke on the weekends, EX-SPECIALY when there's people who can actually sing & they don't even have to be Shit Faced Drunk to do it the right way.. and, I don't always win big but I always have a good time playing video poker.
I love this bar! The drinks are reasonably priced. The KJ for karaoke nights is great and often will sell his amazing smoked cheese and/or hot sauce on the side. This is exactly the vibe I want for a neighborhood bar.
Fun little bar to stop in for a cold beverage after working in the area.
Old old st johns boozer. Youd think half of the patrons might even die on the spot. Very sketchy at times..and very friendly at times. It makes you think..i dont want the califonia transplants and hipsters taking it over..and i also dont want to be in a knife fight with some long time drug dealer. Like Dungeouns and Dragons..its a role of the dice. No females after dark unless youre armed..thats all of st John's and portland so not the bars fault. Support, but dont go in thinking some violence could happen walking back out.
A nice neighborhood bar. The barmaid was pleasant & friendly. The men's room was open with no solid outer door only saloon style swinging doors you can see out into the bar & the video machines while you are peeing. Thats the only negative aspect.
Typically just stop in for a drink and poker, but for what I enjoy there; they're great. Prompt, efficient bar service with frequent check ins. Cheap drinks, and a friendly smile with sufficient bar chatter for service, but not to awkwardly hold you at the bar longer than desired.
